How Did I Get Into This?
Well, to make a long story long story short (medium) it happened like this.
I went to school to be a lawyer. As a lawyer, I spent hours and hours in a state of concentration and it was an accomplishment I strived for and achieved! It was a fun but exhausting time but I got used to it and realized I like being BUSY! I also met my husband there so that worked out great!
I got married, had my first baby followed by my second baby. So the staying busy part was covered! Then I realized I didn’t love being a lawyer as much as I loved learning about it. Days were full in the early baby, and toddler years and let’s be honest, all the school years! As my girls got older I started to dabble in the restoration of designer bags that were left to me when my mother passed away. I have a beloved Aunt who actually showed me how to attack the restoration with confidence and helped show me the techniques I use to restore the bags.
Most every bag I find is vintage. But a good designer bag does not go out of style and vintage designer bags are almost trendier than new ones. So I made myself a website because I want to keep doing this and that is how I can do it!
I love a designer bag, of course, but the joy for me is as much in the highly focused cleaning, taking apart then putting back together aspect of this job. The amount of time it takes to refurbish a bag is so upside down that I try very hard not to count the hours! But they are totally immersion hours and the end result gives me an enormous sense of satisfaction. I love in Richmond, Virginia and my studio is in my basement, at my kitchen table, outdoors on beautiful days and it is an incredible way to spend my days.
My goal is to keep my bags affordable but also to have them go out the door so I can keep lovingly restoring ones who need me.
